Goalkeeper Tando Velaphi make a return to Perth Glory after 7 years absence

Goalkeeper Tando Velaphi made a return to Perth Glory after 7 years absence by signing a one-year deal with the A-League club.

The 31-year-old made more than 70 appearances for Glory in his first stint at the club between 2007 and 2011 after making his A-League debut for Queensland Roar.

Velaphi also played abroad, spending two seasons in Japan with Shonan Bellmare.

His arrival at Glory is expected to stir up a battle with Liam Reddy for the No.1 jersey at Glory.

“The project here at Glory is something that I’m really excited for and I didn’t have to think twice about coming back,” Velaphi said to Hyundai A-League website.

“Personally I’m going to push as hard as I can for the number one position. There’s going to be a lot of competition for spots and that can only benefit the team as it will mean everyone’s being pushed to their limits. That’s what it’s about at this level.

“Hopefully everyone from front to back can work together in unison and push towards something really special for the club.”
