Peruvian key player set to miss Australia game

Peru forward Jefferson Farfan will miss the final Group C game against Australia due to ‘”traumatic brain injury”, coach Ricardo Gareca said on Monday.

The Lokomotiv Moscow striker remains in hospital with a concussion after colliding with a teammate during a training session last weekend.

Peru have already been eliminated after losses in their first two fixtures against Denmark and France.

“Farfan collided with a team-mate during a training session and we were very concerned,” Gareca said in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by Independent.

“He was unconscious for a couple of minutes. The player received all the medical assistance required.

“He is OK but it was a scare. He is doing well.

“Unfortunately he cannot play tomorrow but the most important thing is he is recovering and will get well.”
