Australia keep their hope alive following 1-1 draw to Denmark

Australia kept their FIFA World Cup alive following the 1-1 draw with Denmark at Samara Arena on Thursday.

Christian Eriksen made an early opener for Denmark with a clever volley at the edge of the penalty area on the 7th minute.

However, the Socceroos worked their way into the game and were level before half-time thanks to Jedinak’s penalty. It was 35th minute when referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz consulted VAR and decided to caution Yussuf Poulsen for his handball and awarded the penalty for Australia.

In the second half, despite great efforts, the Australians were failing to add to Mile Jedinak’s goal. There were chances for Aaron Mooy and Robbie Kruse but none of the Socceroos starlets could force a winner.

With one point from this game, Denmark took the Group C lead and put one foot in the Last 16. Meanwhile, Socceroos are still in with a chance heading into the final group match against Peru, provided other results go their way.
