South Korea’s youngster Hwang Hee-chan: I am in fact confident; we prepared a lot for the match against Sweden

Hwang Hee Chan demonstrated his confidence that South Korea would perform well against their first 2018 World Cup opponent Sweden.

“I think we have prepared for a long time for the first game against Sweden,” the 22-year-old shared. “We are ready especially defensively. If we manage to stabilise our defense, we will perform well. We can score against Sweden.”

He didn’t hide his excitement, either. “I have so far watched the World Cup on television only; now I can actually feel it while watching other teams play [in this World Cup],” said the Austrian Red Bull Salzburg’s forward who is playing in the World Cup for the first time ever.

“Personally, I am full of confidence. My seniors have told me the World Cup wouldn’t be easy, but I will perform well with this confidence.”

He is also aware of his role for the successful campaign. “Everybody has thoroughly prepared for both attacking and defending situations. I should run a lot to help defenders and to make a counterattack.

Hwang joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2015; in the 2017/18 season, he appeared in 37 games and scored 13 goals, including five in the continental campaign, which helped his team to reach the Europa semifinal.
