Shanghai SIPG defender banned for 12 months for sneaking a necklace on to the pitch

Chinese defender Wang Shenchao has been slapped with a 12-month international suspension by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) for sneaking a necklace on to the pitch in the friendly against Myanmar.

Wang hid the necklace in his sock before putting it on when he came on as a substitute on the 60th minute during China’s 2-1 friendly win over Myanmar on May 26.

As a consequence, the Shanghai SIPG player was dropped from China’s squad ahead of their friendly with Thailand on June 2.

The CFA said that Wang breached the laws of the game set by FIFA and the International Football Associations Board (IFAB), in which said that “All items of jewelry (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather, rubber bands, etc.) are strictly forbidden and must be removed.”

Wang apologized for his actions on the social media network Weibo and promised he would “better self-discipline and respect for rules in the game” when he returns, as reported by South China Morning Post.
