Melbourne City have released skipper Michael Jakobsen to rivals Adelaide United, the club announced on Monday.
Adelaide United confirmed the signing of Danish center-back Jakobsen on a two-year deal. Earlier, Melbourne City confirmed the defender’s departure following two seasons with the Victorian club.
Jakobsen had amassed more than 200 appearances in the Danish Super Liga with Aalborg BK as well as Esbjerg fB, FC Copenhagen, and FC Nordsjælland.
The 32-year-old also plied his trade to Spanish outfit Almeria and had a brief stint at the beginning of his career at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.
“I’m excited because it’s a new chapter of my career and I’m really looking forward to getting started,” Jakobsen expressed his excitement to join United, as quoted on Hyundai A-League website.
“I’ve heard only positive things about Adelaide United, so that was a big part of my decision.
“People have said Adelaide is a good city especially for small families and I have a small family so it’s perfect.
“The team had a good season last year and the ambitions are high at the Club, which is what I like and this suits me well.
“I want to win games and I want to win titles and hopefully I can contribute to doing that with Adelaide.”
