Fernando Rodriguez’s great form in Liga 1 attracts attention from Spanish media

Fernando Rodriguez Ortega is in the form of his life at the moment, playing for Mitra Kukar F.C in Indonesia’s Liga 1. Right on his 31st birthday (May 11), the Andalusian-born man scored two goals to defeat last year’s runners-up Bali United, extending his goal tally to 10 this season.

Apparently, the news about a 31-year-old journeyman striker becoming Liga 1’s top scorer reaches his native country Spain where the famed newspaper Marca regularly put stories on his exploit on the top of their “Españoles por el Mundo” (Spanish players in foreign countries) category.

In April, another major Spanish newspaper, AS, also made a special report about Fernando Rodriguez Ortega, headlining ‘Fernando Rodríguez, pichichi de la Liga de Indonesia con 4 goles’ (Fernando Rodriguez, the top scorer in Indonesian league with four goals), it was a full-length article about his career under current coach Rafael Berges.

Before coming to Indonesia, he was already noticed by the Spanish media for his achievements in the Philippines. Scored 21 goals for Ceres Negros, he became the top scorer and also helped his team to win 2017 Philippines Football League.
