Persepolis win Iran Pro league for second consecutive season

Tehran giants Persepolis have wrapped up the Persian Gulf Pro League title with 1-0 win over Padideh Mashhad with three rounds on hand.

The Reds have needed just one point to secure their title in week 25th against rival Esteghlal but they lost 1-0. A 2-1 defeat against Saipa in fixture 26 has delayed their feast again but they finally crowned for the second consecutive season with an away win. Iran national team winger Vahid Amiri has scored Persepolis’ winner.

Now Branko Ivankovic’s men will focus on the crucial match against Qatari Club Al-Saad in AFC Champions League. Persepolis have cemented their place in last 16 but they need a home win to go through as the group leader and avoid facing Saudi club Al-Ahli.

Iran and Saudi Arabia’s political tension has forced AFC to hold two countries’ sides encounters in neutral pitch and Persepolis do not want it.
