PREVIEW: K League 1’s “Super Match” between Suwon Samsung and FC Seoul

written by Jeongho Seo

Sometimes enemies encounter each other at the worst time. Suwon Samsung and FC Seoul are among them.

Currently sitting fifth in the table with two wins, one draw, and one defeat, Suwon are in a slump. They have not won any match at home since this season started. The last victory at home was against Thanh Hoa in January. The 1 – 4 defeat at home against Sydney FC took place in Suwon as well.

FC Seoul are no better. After a disappointing season, Seoul decided to rebuild the team. Dawdling at 10th position in the league table without any victory, the team is in trouble.

Both teams desperately need a victory in this Super Match to earn fans’ trust and to change the atmosphere. Seoul might feel more confident as they have won and drawn five matches each, including two straight wins away last season, in the past ten matches against Suwon.

Meanwhile, Dejan Damjanović is likely to be on the pitch as well. This will be his 26th Super Match; Dejan, who was once the most loved foreign player at Seoul, moved to Suwon in 2018.

Dejan’s first Super Match in a blue uniform will take place on April 8.
