ANALYSIS: South Korea’s problems found in a friendly against Poland

3. Is the 4-4-2 formation an answer?

South Korea put in good performances against Serbia and Columbia with the 4-4-2 formation.

The 4-4-2 formation causes exhaustion; however, it allows stronger pressing and speedy counterattacks.

The FIFA World Cup is a short-term competition. It is better to have a well-prepared A than to have mediocre plan B and C. Shin was trying to test a plan B by using the 3-4-3 formation to overcome the weakness in a defense. But so far, Korea played better when attacking, not focusing on defending.

It is time to choose between change and stability, but surely, there is not much time left for Shin.
