David da Silva joins Persebaya Surabaya from Bhayangkara FC

Persebaya Surabaya’s quest to find a foreign striker finally came to an end. For the last few days, there were few rumors regarding this, despite Persebaya have announced their 26 players for the upcoming Liga 1 Indonesia 2018.

After a long research and negotiation, they chose David Aparecido da Silva as their newest foreign striker. Today, they have announced the Brazilian to the public.

Signs of da Silva arrival to Persebaya have appeared for quite a long time. The coach, Angel Alfredo Vera, has publicly said da Silva would sign for his team. The rumor was also fired up by the appearance of Antonio Teles, da Silva’s agent, to Persebaya’s squad announcement.

Before joining Persebaya, da Silva has signed a one year contract with last year champion, Bhayangkara FC. He was bought by The Guardian to replace Ilija Spasojevic, who has been acquired by Bali United. Unfortunately, da Silva didn’t live to the expectations during the preseason and was released from the squad. A goal against FC Tokyo from the spot wasn’t enough to save him.

Da Silva played with a Qatari club named Al Khor before making the move to Indonesia. According to Transfermarkt, da Silva finished his third season with Al Khor without scoring any single goal. His best record came when he played for Zweigen Kanazawa, a club played in J2 Japan. With Zweigen, da Silva played in eight games and created one goal. Other clubs that have used his service are Birkikara FC and Shelbourne FC.

Da Silva will surely add depth to The Bajul Ijo attacking side. Besides da Silva, Persebaya only have two local strikers, Ricky Kayame and Rishadi Fauzi.

However, Persebaya was also being linked with last year top scorer, Sylvano Comvalius. Nevertheless, it’s only a rumor, and it turns out that da Silva is the one who signed for them.
