Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) claimed the top spot of the group H after beating Malaysia champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) 2-0 in the second match of the AFC Cup on Wednesday.
Although JDT dominated possession, it was the home side that broke the deadlock with a goal from Phan Van Dung in the 22nd minute.
Meanwhile, JDT found it struggled to cope with opponents’ tactics. In a week, the 2015 AFC Cup champions were left bewildered following the shocking departures of head coach Ulisses Morais and Argentine striker Jorge Diaz.
Defender Pham Xuan Manh sealed the win for SLNA four minutes of the additional time following a swift counter-attack.
With two wins from two games, SLNA are on top of the table. The V-League side’s next match will take place on March 6, when they host Indonesian club Persija Jakarta.
