The phrase ‘old but gold’ describes ‘Lion King’ Lee Dong-gook well. The 38-year-old forward produced a brilliant comeback as they overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Kashiwa Reysol in their first AFC Champions League (ACL) match on 12th February.
2017 K-League Classic champion Jeonbuk suffered from their winless streak against Kashiwa with one draw and five defeats. This match seemed to follow tradition as Jeonbuk conceded two goals in the first half.
However, Choi Kang-hee decided to introduce veteran striker Lee Dong-gook in the second half, which changed everything. It took veteran striker 10 minutes to start their drama. After Kim Jin-su scored an equaliser, Lee found the net again, which allows Jeonbuk to enjoy their first victory over Kashiwa.
With two goals added to his record, Lee remains the top scorer in the history of ACL with 34 goals so far.
