Muangthong United’s ambition to qualify for the 2018 AFC Champions League was ended following the 3-0 defeat by Kashiwa Reysol on Tuesday play-off.
After a goalless first half, Brazilian midfielder Cristiano broke the deadlock for Kashiwa in the 51st minute from a Junya Ito cut-back.
Cristiano completed his brace in the 62 minute to double the hosts’ advantage, before Junya Ito secured the qualifying ticket for the home side with a cool finish from inside the area in the 89th minute.
Kashiwa will compete in the Group E of AFC Champions League, where they face Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Kitchee and Tianjin Quanjian.
