Malaysia U-23 coach Ong Kim Swee has warned his side about the severe weather in China, that lead to the cancellation of their friendly match against the Syrian U-23 on Friday.
The friendly was supposed to be the final test for Kim Swee to finalize his squad before the team kick off their AFC U-23 Championship campaign against Iraq in Chiangsu on January 10.
However, the match had to be canceled due to poor weather conditions with thick snow on the stadium’s pitch.
“Even though we are disappointed because this friendly match could not be played, it is something that is out of our control because of the uncertain weather conditions. It does affect our preparations because I wanted to use the match to assess the players,” Kim Swee said, as quoted by the New Straits Times.
“Our players must not just be physically prepared but mentally strong as well to face the bigger challenge of facing superior teams in the championship while playing in very cold weather conditions,” he added.
