Thailand U-21 were held 3-3 by Vietnam U-19 in the International U-21 Football Tournament, which will take place in Can Tho, Vietnam from December 12-22.
This draw ended Thailand’s hope for the gold medal at the friendly tournament, whereas Vietnam U-21 earned the ticket to the final thanks to the superior points to their arch-rivals in the overall ranking.
Despite the unfavorable result, Thailand coach Julian Marin Bazalo keeps his optimism about the future of his young players.
“We are a little bit lucky to earn this draw but we missed many chances. If we took advantages of those chances in the past matches, we would be able to compete in the final match,” he said, as quoted by Soha.
“I have respected the youth teams of Vietnam. I appreciate what you have done for Vietnam football.
“However, bad results do not mean Thailand lag behind Vietnam. The comparison is not appropriate and cannot be applied to any football team.”
