Malaysia FA appoint Tan Cheng Hoe as new national team head coach

Tan Cheng Hoe has replaced Nelo Vingada, who stepped down on Wednesday following a string of poor results, as head coach of the Malaysia national team.

Cheng Hoe is a former Kedah coach and was appointed as an assistant to Vingada in this May.

In a brief statement, Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) general secretary Dato’ Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin said: “We would like to congratulate Tan Cheng Hoe on being appointed as new Harimau Malaya head coach.”

After FAM general secretary Datuk Hamidin Amin made the announcement yesterday evening, Cheng Hoe said he accepted the challenge lift the national team from the struggled period.

“I was surprised to be offered the job and I accept it after discussing it with Tunku President (Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim),” said Cheng Hoe, as quoted by The New Straits Times.

“It is a heavy responsibility and I would like to thank Tunku President for his faith in me. This is a good opportunity for me to handle the national team.

“I know it won’t be easy and I hope to get the support of everyone to get the job done.”
