A 43-year-old will be stripped his Singaporean citizenship for involving in match-fixing, as announced by Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday.
MHA said that the man and his syndicate members built Singapore as the hub to conduct major global match-fixing activities. He then traveled to other countries to fix the matches and drew some foreign players in Singapore into his activities.
Said the ministry: “This individual’s serious criminal conduct not only undermined the integrity of Singapore’s financial system, but also law and order.
“Witnesses were afraid of testifying against the individual and his syndicate members in open court for fear of reprisal.”
The man is understood to be Mali-born Gaye Alassane, a former S-League player, according to Singapore news outlet Channel NewsAsia.
