Al Wasl’s Caio Correa and Fabio Lima slapped with fines for mocking rivals

Al Wasl’s duo Caio Correa and Fabio Lima had been fined for mocking rivals in a controversial video, which went viral on social media on Monday.

In the 26-second clip, the Brazilian duo were asked by a fan what they would do to ‘The Penguins’ (a mocking term for Al Nasr used by some Al Wasl fans) in Thursday’s derby.

In response, Lima said: “Like this,” and shows the action of a penguin, while Correa responded by running his hand across his throat.

The penguin is the reference to the plastic penguins at Al Nasr Leisureland, where Al Nasr’s Al Maktoum Stadium is based.

On Tuesday, the pair were slapped with a two-match ban, and a $5,500 fine by the UAE Football Association’s  disciplinary committee, which called the video ‘offensive and provocative’.

However, Al Wasl appealed on Wednesday and said they had not had adequate time to prepare their defense for Tuesday’s disciplinary meeting, as reported by the Gulf News.

As a result, the disciplinary committee has been postponed until a second hearing can be held on November 12, meaning Caio and Lima can now play against Al Nasr in the Thursday derby.
