Axel Witsel admitted that the financial aspect had affected his decision to join Tianjin Quanjian and in turn turning down a move to Italia giants Juventus.
“I don’t deny that the economic aspect was important and my choice was made especially with the money in mind,” the Belgium international said, as quoted by Fichajes.net.
“However, the project also interested me beyond Cannavaro’s presence on the bench and I spoke to him often before reaching my decision.”
Witsel joined Tianjin Quanjian from Zenit St Petersburg in the winter transfer window – a move which reportedly earns him €18 million annually.
