Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has reached an agreement with Spain’s La Liga in the onset of a campaign to send national team players to European clubs in the January transfer window, as reported by Ahdaaf.
SAFF president Adel Ezzat and Turki Al Al-Shaikh, who is the newly appointed head of the General Sports Authority, flew to Madrid last week to finalize the agreement.
This move has been part of the preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, for which Saudi Arabia has qualified for the first time in 12 years.
A shortlist of national team players has been drafted with clubs and leagues in Europe this September, including Ittihad winger Fahad Al Muwallad.
Scouts from various European clubs will be present at the Portugal vs Saudi Arabia friendly scheduled on 10 November in Leiria.
