The Japan Football Association (JFA) appointed Hajime Moriyasu as the head coach of the Japan U-23 for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the executive committee announced on Thursday.
“I am honored to be chosen as the new coach of the U-23 team to participate in the 2020 Olympic. The sporting event will take place in Japan, so I feel a heavy responsibility for this job,” Moriyasu told Football Tribe Japan.
“In order to respond to the support of all the country’s people, we would like to challenge the battle with our whole spirit. Please continue your warmest support us from now on.”
Moriyasu coached Sanfrecce Hiroshima from 2012 and led the team to the J. League championship three times.
However, he resigned in July this year to take responsibility for the J1 side’s poor performance this season.
