Vietnam veteran coach Le Thuy Hai believed that the upcoming Asian Cup qualifier against Cambodia would be a difficult task for Vietnam national team.
“How can you assume that playing against Cambodia at home is easy? Don’t you know how to play football?” Hai told Tri Thuc Tre reporters.
“Before the game starts, there is nothing called easy. Cambodian football has developed very quickly recent years, while we are in the downturn, so it is quite a difficult game for us,” he added.
On the other hand, Hai defended his friend, Vietnam caretaker Mai Duc Chung, against the criticism drawn on Chung about his decision to call striker Mai Hong Quan, who has not shown impressive performance at his club, back to the national squad.
“I won’t discuss the players that Chung called up for the squad. We have to respect his decision. He has the right to summon whoever suitable for his tactics,” the 71-year-old said.
The Golden Stars will be back for training on 3 October in Hanoi in the preparation for the qualifier, which takes place a week later.
