Vietnam national team caretaker Mai Duc Chung will remain his post until Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) finds a new boss for the team.
In the meeting on Tuesday evening, VFF board confirmed former coach Nguyen Huu Thang will not reprise his role after resigning due to Vietnam’s early elimination from last month’s SEA Games.
“We have yet found a coach for the national team in the upcoming match against Cambodia,” VFF vice-president Tran Quoc Tuan told reporters, as quoted by The Thao & Van Hoa.
“The second leg against Cambodia is very important and may affect greatly to our prospect at the 2019 Asian Cup qualification. The game is less than a month and we are not sure that the new coach can have enough time to handle the team.
Therefore, interim coach Mai Duc Chung will be likely to be in charge in this match.”
