Vietnam could be hit by $10,000 fine after flares accident in Cambodia

Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) could be fined for failing to prevent fans setting off flares during 2019 Asian Cup qualifier against Cambodia at Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Several flares were set off after visitors had taken the lead just after four minutes and it appeared only Vietnam fans were involved.

As soon as the incident took place, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officials and match supervisors worked with VFF Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan and General Secretary Le Hoai Anh in the field.

Cambodia police warned some fan for lighting flares but have yet to arrest any of those supporters.

As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, AFC confirmed it had opened disciplinary proceedings over the matter. The penalty that Vietnam football governing body may face could be 10,000 USD.
