Vietnam has won 2017 SEA Games women’s football gold medal following a 6-0 victory over hosts Malaysia on Thursday.
The victory put Vietnam level on points with Thailand, but the Golden Girls have superior goal difference.
Thailand beat the Philippines 3-1 earlier on the same day, meaning Vietnam needed to win by at least five goals.
Vietnam made light work of hosts Malaysia, winning by six goals clear, with Vu Thi Nhung, Nguyen Thi Lieu (twice), Nguyen Thi Muon (twice) and Huynh Nhu all on target.
The Golden Girls from Vietnam began their campaign with a 3-0 victory over the Philippines. They went on to beat Myanmar 3-1 before being held to a 1-1 draw by Thailand.
This is the fifth SEA Games women’s football gold medal for Vietnam. Previously, the side has won four gold medals in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2009.
