Cambodia star Chan Vathanaka expressed his respect for former Vietnamese veteran player Le Cong Vinh and targets a victory in AFC Asian Cup qualifying match again Vietnam on 5 September.
According to an interview with Vietnam Football, Vathanaka said that he had a good knowledge about Cong Vinh’s experience in J-League 1 side Consadole Sapporo.
“Cong Vinh retired from football last year but he is still my favorite footballer,” the 23-year-old striker shares his thoughts about his Vietnamese counterpart.
On 5 September, Cambodia will host Vietnam in a 2019 Asian Cup qualifier and this would be the chance for Vanthanaka to strike a goal against his neighboring team.
“Vietnam is a strong team. Cambodia will start the game with a hunger for victory. Of course, I want to score against them,” the player known affectionately as “Cambodian Messi” said.
The Kouprey Blue is standing in the second place in Group C with three points after a win over Afghanistan on 14 June. This important win helps the team leapfrog Vietnam in the group with 1 points splitting them.
