Jamie Maclaren rumoured to join FC Kaiserslauten

Jamie Maclaren farewelled Brisbane Roar in style with a double against Ulsan Hyundai last night, despite the Roar’s ultimate 3-2 defeat against the South Korean side.

The 23-year-old striker’s exit has been long expected after he rejected the club’s offer to re-sign him.

Maclaren’s brace in the season-ending defeat takes his Roar tally to 43 in 61 appearances in all competitions.

Both of Maclaren’s goals were set up by another of Brisbane’s departing stars, Brandon Borrello.

“I’ve had the faith of John [Aloisi] and the coaching staff, and I’ve grown as a player but when you feel like you’ve reached the limit, you feel like you want to go that next step… it’s a good time for me [to leave],” Maclaren told Fox Sports Asia.

Maclaren and winger Brandon Borrello are hinted to link up once more at German second division club Kaiserslautern.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m looking at things. It could be an option but it’s not my focus. I’m not just going to go to another club because Brandon’s there,” he said.

“We do have [on-field] chemistry and it would help.”

When asked about the rumours of a move to Kaiserslautern, Borrello was reluctant to confirm the news.

“I’ve enjoyed playing at Brisbane Roar,” he said.

“It shows. The boys, the coaching staff and the boss (Aloisi) have all believed in me.”

“It’s football and you never know what’s going to happen. It’s the end of the season now and everyone’s future’s up in the air.”

21-year-old Borrello broke into Brisbane Roar’s first team in 2013 and went on to make 75 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals.
