Colombian striker Jackson Martinez could be on his way out of Guangzhou Evergrande after manager Felipe Luiz Scolari left him out of their squad for the AFC Champions League this season, according to reports.
According to the regulations of the AFC Champions League, each club competing in the tournament are allowed to register “three plus one” foreign players, meaning three non-Asian and one Asian player.
Scolari has decided to name midfielders Ricardo Goulart, Paulinho and striker Alan as the three non-Asian players, leaving Jackson Martinez out of the competition altogether.
Martinez joined Guangzhou Evergrande from Atletico Madrid in early 2016 for a then record-breaking fee of €42 million. He has scored 4 goals in 16 appearances for the Chinese club.
