David Moyes has opted t o go against the grain and believes Erik ten Hag is doing a brilliant job at Manchester United as he hailed the resilience shown by the Dutchman.
The uncertainty of Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford has again raised its sinister head after Sunday’s draw at Aston Villa resigned United to their worst start to a Premier League season. This has resulted in the Manchester Evening News reporting that United are lining up former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel as a potential replacement for the beleaguered Dutchman.
However, on the contrary, Moyes thinks Ten Hag would be unfortunate to lose his job despite this season’s difficulties, insisting he should be credited instead for how he’s handled himself while speculation surrounding his future has been rife.
“I think he’s doing a brilliant job. I think he’s shown brilliant resilience in the situation that he’s in and I think he should be credited for how well he’s conducted himself,” said Moyes, who was named as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford in 2013.
“As far as I know, I don’t see him ducking any questions or any media interviews that you people [the media] put forward to him.
“I think you have to give him great credit for that but it’s a job that is going to attract immense pressure, people talking, so I have to say that I think he’s doing a brilliant job.”
United have won just three of their eight Premier League games this term and have suffered heavy defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
When the question was put to shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Sunday if he had faith in Ten Hag, the British billionaire said: “I don’t want to answer that question.”
