Icelandic striker Albert Gudmundsson is currently the centre of attention, having ignited a transfer battle between London rivals West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, according to Caught Offside.
27-year-old Gudmundsson turned heads with highly impressive performances in Serie A last season, having played a pivotal role in Genoa’s promotion from Serie B and continued to shine in the top flight. His efforts in the international arena even nearly secured Iceland a spot in Euro 2024.
West Ham and Tottenham have both reportedly initiated contact with Genoa to gauge Gudmundsson’s availability, and seem willing to meet Genoa’s asking price falling between €30-35 million (£25-30 million).
West Ham have expressed interest in Gudmundsson prior to this, and reinitiating contacts clearly suggest a renewed pursuit of the versatile attacker.
Gudmundsson began his career in Iceland and took it up a notch flourishing in the Netherlands with clubs like PSV Eindhoven and AZ. He then joined Genoa in 2022 and has been a key contributor to their success.
Chief among Gudmundsson’s main strengths is his versatility, as he can comfortably play in various attacking positions, including central midfield, on the wings, or even as a second striker.
Former Serie A player Kevin Strootman compared Gudmundsson to a young Mohamed Salah and described him as “devastating,” highlighting his attacking prowess.
Currently, Inter Milan also appears to be the frontrunner in the race for Gudmundsson’s signature, which means the Irons need to act swiftly if they want to secure the talented Icelandic forward.
