Ange Postecoglou has been cautioning restraint and being careful not to be drawn into the swirling speculation linking Harry Kane with a transfer away from Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs talismanic hot rod Kane has noticeably entered the final year of his contract with Tottenham and the 29-year-old is strongly believed to be assessing his options, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid being the popular links.
“Kane is one of the premier strikers in the world and I want him involved here,” Postecoglou said. “I just want to introduce myself to Harry, give him my vision, get an understanding from him over what his vision is and try to be successful. My conversation with him will be about how we can make this club successful and there is no doubt that is what he wants as well.”
Tottenham are undeniably in an awkward position with regards to their talisman as selling Kane this summer would mean losing their top scorer and a key point of focus in their first XI, but, conversely, an obdurate refusal to let him leave now effectively means bidding adieu to their top-scoring legend as a free agent. What this boils down to is that whichever direction Tottenham choose to take over the coming weeks before the end of the transfer window amounts to an unenviable risk, no less.
Postecoglou’s “vision” would no doubt include Kane as pivotal to his plans for the squad. The former Celtic boss is known to have a penchant for a modern style of play focused on attack and the England captain would clearly be the perfect attacking hub for the Aussie’s team. Selling Kane this summer would be akin to scuttling his plans and force Spurs into the market to find a replacement, which would be much easier said than done.
Spurs are now poised at the start of a rebuild as last season was a shambolic affair for the North London outfit as they went through three different managers – with two of them being interim – and ultimately finishing a dubious eighth in the Premier League table, outside the European qualification places.
This would surely have come as a major disappointment for Kane who has been looking forward to playing regularly in the Champions League. Which is why he is said to be looking for greener pastures elsewhere.
