For the first time ever, Barcelona is selling the naming rights of their prestigious home, Nou Camp to Barca Foundation, who will find a sponsor for the next season.
While the move seems controversial, the Catalan club wants to sell the naming rights in order to uze all the revenue to beat COVID-19.
“Revenue will be used to fund research projects and the worldwide fight against the pandemic,” the club said.
“FC Barcelona and the Barca Foundation consider it a necessity that at this time of humanitarian crisis, the institution should use all its resources to fight against the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences.”
Barca’s stadium, which is known as Camp Nou in Catalan, has never had any other name since it’s grand opening in 1957.
Barcelona also did not have any shirt sponsor until 2010 when they signed a deal with the Qatar Foundation, using Qatar Airways as the title.
