Football Tribe is excited to announce our expansion into South Asia as we open our Indian edition.
With a history extending back to the 19th century, football is one of India’s most enduring sports. Current I-League competitors Mohun Bagan AC were founded in 1889, while post-independence India first fielded a national team in 1948.
Club football has also made inroads in recent years thanks to continued development of the Hero I-League, who fielded 2013 AFC Cup semi-finalists East Bengal and 2017 inter-zone finalists Bengaluru, as well as the launch of the wildly popular Indian Super League, which held its first season in 2014.
Last year was a momentous one for India as the country qualified for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and set FIFA U-17 World Cup attendance records with over 1.3 million fans attending matches in six host cities.
Readers of Football Tribe India can expect insightful English-language coverage of local leagues, regional and continental club competitions such as the AFC Cup, as well as full coverage of India’s national team as they approach the upcoming AFC Asian Cup and SAFF Suzuki Cup. The site will also feature sections on women’s and youth football, two categories which will feature heavily in India’s grassroots development.
We look forward to welcoming Indian football fans to our Tribe!
