Germany has been knocked out of the Group Stages of the World Cup 2018. Germany and South Korea are both heading home from the World Cup after this result. Now the inquest into how the reigning World Champions have slipped so far can begin.
The Germans have not been eliminated in a World Cup first round in 80 years – that’s qualifying 16 times in a row from the group stage.
They had a wasteful first half and almost gifted Korea a goal when keeper Manuel Neuer spilt a free kick in the 19th minute but recovered to slap the ball away. And despite throwing on all their attacking talent in the second half it simply wasn’t enough – with Kim Young-gwom and Son Heung-min executing the giant-killing act.
1.Joachim Low’s Questionable Team selection:
After guiding Germany to semi-finals in every tournament he has managed them in, Low now has to convince his bosses that he is still the right man to guide them even after this disappointment.
The fallout from this defeat will be huge and their fans will not tolerate an early exit especially because of the quality of this team.Leaving Thomas Muller was a big call and even more so when he’s replaced by an ineffective Ozil. Especially as the German were DESPERATE for a goal all through the match.
Muller came on with half an hour to go because Germany needed a goal.It was too little, too late.
Loew usually gets the calls right and knows exactly how to balance his side. With Ozil coming in an out, the same with Khadira and now Muller, in Russia, he got the selection of the team wrong time and again.
It will be interesting to see what will happen now with this team going forward.
