2. Real Kashmir FC become first J&K football team to gain I-League promotion

Real Kashmir FC have secured promotion to the Hero I-League, having clinched the 2017/18 Hero 2nd Division League title on Wednesday (May 30, 2018).

David Robertson’s side only needed a point to win the title and promotion on the final day of the Hero 2nd Division League season, Real Kashmir FC defeated Hindustan FC 3-2 at Bengaluru’s FSV Arena today (Wednesday, May 30, 2018) to finish their final round campaign with 7 points from 3 matches, 3 ahead of Hindustan FC. The feat of the two-year-old club, coached by former Scotland international and Glasgow Rangers legend David Robertson, is remarkable given that football infrastructure is not exactly the best in the state.

They will play in the I-League 2018-19 season starting in September, rubbing shoulders with heavyweights such as Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, who are also expected to turn up in Srinagar.
