Thailand U-22 goalkeeper Nont Muangngam is confident that his team can claim three vital points against Vietnam to make the semifinals.
“I understand that Vietnam players always want to overcome Thailand. We are their biggest rivals,” Nont told VnExpress reporters.
“We also want to earn a victory against Vietnam. The current situation forces us to win. Vietnam are highly appreciated in this year’s tournament but once we face each other, the victory will definitely belong to Thailand. In my opinion, they do not have a chance against us,” the Thai goalkeeper believed.
Thailand are looking to win the SEA Games men’s football gold medal for a third consecutive time.
However, the Worawoot Srimakha’s side has face tougher task after being held by Indonesia in the opening match on Tuesday.
Therefore, the fate of the Young War Elephants is likely to be decided in the last group stage battle against heavy title favorites Vietnam on 24 August.
