Former Tottenham Hotspur Didier Zokora parts way with Semen Padang

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Didier Zokora has parted way with Indonesia Liga 1 side Semen Padang after four months.

According to club manager Win Bernadino, both sides have agreed to terminated his contract on August 2 for financial reasons.

“We’re talking about the club, the financial situation of the club, so that was the most rational way to save the club,” Bernadino said, as quoted by AFP.

Bernadino said Zokora had played well, but Semen Padang lost a major sponsor before the second round of the inaugural Liga 1 kicked off this month.

Zokora is the second name to be axed by Indonesian club after former West Ham United and Chelsea striker Carlton Cole was sacked by Persib Bandung last week.

The 36-year-old is currently the most capped player for Ivory Coast with 123 appearances and has represented his national team for nearly 15 years since made debut in 2000.

He spent 15 seasons in the European football, starting out at Belgium’s Genk before going on to feature for Saint-Etienne, Tottenham, Sevilla, Trabzonspor, Akhisar Belediyespor.
