Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun had a controversial and disappointing night against Arsenal Tula in Russian Premier League match week 7.
Azmoun who scored Iran national team opener in 2-0 win over Hong Kong in 2022 World Cup qualifier, missed a penalty and was booked for arguing with referee last night.
He had started the season in good form and had found the net twice and provided 2 assists in first 5 weeks but with missing the penalty against Arsenal Tula, his goal-drought has stretched to 6 matches.
Sardar’s unlucky scenario has fulfilled in 75th minutes when he argued with the referee as he wanted to kill the time by refusing to exit the pitch. Finally he was booked and his team-mate Artem Dzyuba carried him out.
However, Zenit manager Sergei Semak believes his Iranian forward will back to his best sooner than later.
“Missing penalty happens for any player. Sardar will surely score again. We know it will happen soon. he tries his best for the team and this is the most important thing.”
