Rio Ave manager Carlos Carvalhal has admitted that for him, Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi is a top footballer and expects more from him.
Iranian international Mehdi Taremi had joined Portuguese club Rio Ave in close season and has played his debut for the side in 1-0 defeat against Famalicao.
In his 15 minutes as substitute, he won a penalty but Brazilian Filipe Augusto missed it.
Rio Ave will play against Aves in week 2 on Friday and Carvalhal admires his Iranian forward in press conference.
“Signing Mehdi was a good move for us. He wanted to play in Europe so he rejected huge money from other clubs. He has attracted out attention and we are happy with his recruitment.” Carvalhal said.
“He is an exceptional footballer. He works in spaces very well, he supports his team-mates perfectly, he is good in aerial duels and he is good finisher. We expect more from Taremi but he is in the process of settlement. We also have to consider the language barrier but I think Mehdi could help us much.’
