Dewa United has officially announced their relocation to Banten International Stadium in Serang for the 2025/26 Liga 1 Indonesia season, along with a rebranding to Dewa United Banten.
The move aims to establish the club as a representative of the entire Banten province, broadening its support base within the local community. To reinforce this new identity, the club has also changed its nickname from the Tangsel Warriors to the Banten Warriors.
Originally founded as Martapura FC in South Kalimantan, the club underwent a major transformation in February 2022 when new ownership took over, relocating it to South Tangerang and rebranding it as Dewa United. The objective was to capture the South Tangerang football market, a region where local support was divided between Persita Tangerang, Persikota Tangerang, and Persija Jakarta.
Despite establishing its headquarters and training facilities in South Tangerang, Dewa United lacked a permanent home stadium and had been sharing Indomilk Arena with Persita since 2022.
Meanwhile, Banten International Stadium—a 30,000-seat venue inaugurated in May 2022—had remained largely unused. Local side Perserang Serang opted to continue playing at the aging Maulana Yusuf Stadium, while accessibility issues discouraged other clubs from making it their home ground.
Dewa United founder Jerry Hermawan Lo emphasized that the relocation to Banten International Stadium was driven by his deep personal connection to the region. Having spent his childhood in Banten, with his wife hailing from the province and his parents buried there, he expressed a strong desire to build a football club that Banten residents could take pride in.
He also highlighted the stadium’s role in improving training facilities and league preparations, while providing affordable entertainment for local football fans. By hosting Liga 1 matches on weekends, he hopes to draw strong community support and foster a deeper football culture in Banten.
Banten Deputy Governor Achmad Dimyati Natakusumah welcomed the move, expressing optimism that Dewa United’s presence at Banten International Stadium would enhance the province’s reputation on a broader scale. He also hopes that the Banten Warriors will serve as a platform for developing top-tier football talent from the region.
Under head coach Jan Olde Riekerink, Dewa United had already begun training sessions at Banten International Stadium in mid-February, even before the club’s official relocation was confirmed on Sunday.
