BGPU Humiliate Dortmund in Friendly

German giants Borussia Dortmund were utterly humiliated in their first match of their Asian tour as they fell to a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Thai League 1 powerhouses BG Pathum United at the BG Stadium on Sunday.

Despite missing several of his Euro 2024 stars, Dortmund head coach Nuri Sahin was still able to call upon several notable names, such as Niklas Sule, Felix Nmecha, Julian Brandt, and Karim Adeyemi, while Sebastien Haller was named as a substitute.

However, Dortmund found themselves 1-0 down in the 14th minute after former Werder Bremen man Melvyn Lorenzen found his way past goalkeeper Alexander Meyer.

Thai footballing icon Teerasil Dangda then made it 2-0 for the Glass Rabbits in the 44th minute.

Both BGPU and Dortmund then replaced a good portion of their squad during half-time, but even with the change of personnel BGPU kept their dominance over their opponents. A brace from Jaroensak Wonggorn in the 65th and 88th minute were enough to put the result beyond doubt and inflict massive humiliation onto Dortmund, who were runners-up of last season’s UEFA Champions League.

Sahin must rally his troops as soon as possible as Dortmund will travel to Japan for the next leg of their Asian tour, taking on former player Shinji Kagawa and his Cerezo Osaka side on July 24th.
