Reigning Thai League 1 champions BG Pathum United ensured that they did not relinquish their crown to league leaders Buriram United on Sunday, after the Glass Rabbits eke out a stubborn 1-0 win away at Buriram’s Chang Arena.
With a whopping 12 point advantage over BGPU, a win for Buriram on Sunday would ensure that the Thunder Castles win their first Thai League title in four years.
However, Sarach Yooyen struck in the 13th minute to give BGPU the lead, a lead that the Glass Rabbits won’t relinquish all the way to full-time.
Former Buriram player Andres Tunez in particular shone in the BGPU defense, denying the Thunder Castles in every opportunity that helped the Glass Rabbits secure all three points to their name – the second consecutive time that BGPU had won away at the Chang Arena in the league.
Despite losing, Buriram still commanded a nine-point lead over 2nd placed BGPU with only four games to go in the season, and the Thunder Castles could celebrate their league title away at local rivals Khonkaen United in the next edition of the Isan Derby on April 2nd.
