Wednesday’s 2021 Liga Super Malaysia Matchweek 2 action saw Petaling Jaya City almost pulling off an impressive victory over Melaka United at the Petaling Jaya Stadium, only for the Phoenixes to be left disappointed after the Mousedeers managed to land a 95th minute equalizer to force a 2-2 tie. The pulsating encounter saw PJ City’s all-Malaysian brigade once again impressing on the pitch, going from 1-0 down to 2-1 up before Melaka’s late equalizer denied P. Maniam’s charges their first win of the season.
After a goalless first half, the game on display at the empty Petaling Jaya Stadium erupted into life after Melaka had taken the lead in the 55th minute. Haiti international Sony Norde sent a perfect cross into the PJ City penalty area, with the ball being headed into Kalamullah Al-Hafiz’s goal by Kumaahran Sathasivam.
Darren Lok managed to level things up for PJ City in the 70th minute with a first-time effort from outside the penalty area that went past Melaka goalie Khairul Fahmi Che Mat and into the bottom left corner of the goal, before the former Johor Darul Ta’zim player managed to give PJ City the lead with a well-taken penalty in the 86th minute after Khyril Muhymeen was fouled in the area by Kumaahran.
However, the Phoenixes’ three points were denied right at the death after a 95th minute free-kick from Sony was headed towards Al-Hafiz’s goal by Faris Shah Rosli, with the ball being deflected into its target by PJ City defender Raffi Nagoorgani.
Wednesday’s Liga Super action also saw Sri Pahang FC succumbing to a second consecutive defeat after Perak FC managed to plunder a 2-0 win away at the Darul Makmur Stadium, while a solitary goal from Dominique Da Sylva was enough for newly-promoted Kuala Lumpur City to see off UiTM FC at the KLFA Stadium.
