Thailand international striker Teerasil Dangda has joined J.League side Shimizu S-Pulse from Muangthong United.
Shimizu have confirmed that their deal for the striker will be a permanent move, with information on contract details expected to be made public soon during official press conferences.
The striker is one of the most renowned players in Thai football history, making over 100 appearances for the War Elephants and is the national teams’ third-highest goalscorer of all time. He is also a legend with his club side Muangthong United, where he has played for the last 11 years, making 270 appearances, scoring 117 goals and playing a critical role in all four of his club’s Thai League title wins.
Despite spending most of his career in Thailand, Teerasil has had notable spells abroad. After trialing with Thai-owned Manchester City in 2007, the striker returned to Europe with a loan spell at La Liga side Almeria during the 2014-15 season. He also featured as a regular for J.League outfit Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2018, where he scored 6 goals from 32 appearances for the side.
After an enforced injury break kept Teerasil out for most of the first half of last season, but since his return, he has regained his place as Thailand’s first-choice striker under Akira Nishino. Despite his age, a chance to maintain his fitness and sharpness in a strong league will be critical for the national team’s fortunes in the near future.
