Muangthong United are yet to fill their foreign player quota for next season, sparking speculation about potential new signings between now and the start of the season, tentatively scheduled for February 14th.

In an exclusive interview with Football Tribe, Kirin coach Alexandre Gama admitted that he wants to sign an energetic attacking midfielder ahead of the upcoming campaign.

When asked about his decision not to extend Bruno Gallo’s contract for the upcoming season, Gama revealed that the deep-lying playmaker was not what he needed for next season. “Bruno did well,” Gama admitted, “he is a very smart guy when it comes to passing and moving the ball. But, what for what I want to prepare for this season, he is not the player I need.”

Instead, Gama would prefer someone who can contribute more to the offensive side of the game and bring more energy, noting that many of the local players already have the same traits which Gallo brings to the team.

“I want a player who is more aggressive,” Gama revealed. “I want a player who can break the lines more quickly, and someone who can run with the ball”

“I want one player to ‘put his foot inside the box.’ Someone to come and surprise behind the striker and score goals. Like a number 10. I want one guy to really take the responsibility to organize the game, help the team, and score goals also.”

The Kirin boss didn’t hint at any names or even reveal how far they are in the process of bringing in this type of player. However, Gama admitted that “this position is very difficult to find,” and indicated that succeeding in his hunt for this player could be crucial for helping Muangthong return to the upper end of the league next season.

“If I really bring the players with the characteristics I want, I can guarantee for you I can win a trophy,” he confidently claimed.

Muangthong are yet to be linked to the type of attacking midfielder Gama has described, so it remains to be seen who he brings in and what kind of impact this player could have on the Kirin next season.

The remainder of our exclusive interview with coach Gama will be released soon.
