Hanoi FC have rejected an offer for star midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai from J1 League side Consadole Sapporo, according to this report from Goal Vietnam.
Quang Hai has been a prized property ever since he burst onto the scene with Vietnam, and is widely considered to be the most talented member of the nation’s current ‘Golden Generation’ which won the AFF Cup in 2018 and made it to the quarter-finals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
His impressive performances have attracted attention from abroad, reportedly from both Japan and Europe. Additionally, Consadole have already enjoyed success with their investments in Southeast Asia, with Thai attacking midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin establishing himself as a fan favorite in Hokkaido.
However, unlike his teammates Nguyen Cong Phuong and Doan Van Hau, Quang Hai has chosen to remain in Vietnam.
It is reported that Quang Hai feels that, at the moment, he wants to stay with Hanoi FC and play for the Vietnamese champions again next season. He thanked Sapporo for the offer but he chose not to move to Japan.
Hanoi FC representatives informed the media that they had rejected Sapporo’s offer and are preparing to renew Quang Hai’s contract before the new season starts in February.
