Borneo FC Continue Race For Runner-Up Spot

Week 31 of the 2019 Liga 1 started yesterday as Borneo FC claimed a big win to secure their position as the runner-up with 49 points out of 31 games while others Bornean clubs, PS Barito Putera and Kalteng Putra, suffered loss last night.

Pesut Etam faced PS TIRA-Persikabo in front of thousands of Pusamania in their beloved Segiri stadium. Renan da Silva’s goal opened their party in 29th minutes while Argentinian striker, Matias Conti, registered another one in 34th minutes to close the first half with a two-goal lead.

Conti completed his hat-trick by adding two goals in the 55th minute  72nd minutes. Meanwhile, two minutes before Conti’s last goal, Parfait Essengue made the only goal for the visiting team but didn’t manage to end their run which has now stretched to 16 matches without a win.

Laskar Padjajaran, who went on a 12 game unbeaten run in the first half of the season, came to the Segiri in a bad condition after their coach Rahmad Darmawan was sacked because of the negative results. They are now sitting in 12th position with 38 points but only eight ahead of bottom side Kalteng Putra.

Kalteng Putra dropped down to that position after crushed by Madura United in front of their supporters in Tuah Pahoe stadium. The away team opened their lead with a quick goal scored by Slamet Nurchayo in 7th minutes. Wasyiat Hasbullah gave hope for the host as he scored the equalizer in 34th minutes but ten minutes later Beto Goncalves’ gave Laskar Sapeh Kerrab the lead ahead of the second half. 

Last season’s top scorer Aleksandar Rakic, blasted a left-footed shot into the corner of Reki Rahayu’s goal to enlarge Madura’s win into 3-1 in 59th minutes while Brazilian midfielder, Diego Assis, complete the goal party eight minutes before the game finished with a style in a direct free-kick goal.

Another Bornean clubs who lost on their own turf is PS Barito Putera. Laskar Antasari gave hope for Semen Padang FC, who now move from the lowest rank to 16th after winning 0-3. Two Brazilians, striker Vanderlei Fransisco, and midfielder Flavio Beck Junior become Kabau Sirah’s messiah as both players arrived in mid-season managed to find the net. Vanderlei registered a brace in 10th and 79th minutes while Flavio added another one five minutes after Vanderlei’s last goal.
