BG Pathum United Sign Sumanya Purisai From Port

BG Pathum United have continued to strengthen their side ahead of their return to the Thai top-flight by sealing a deal for Port attacking midfielder and former Thai international Sumanya Purisai.

Sumanya was very highly rated when he joined Port FC at the beginning of last season, on the back of an incredible 2018 campaign where he finished as the highest-scoring local player in the division with Bangkok United.

During this time, Sumanya also had an impressive run with the Thai national team, regularly being picked by coach Milovan Rajevac and later caretaker boss Sirisak Yodyardthai.

However, the attacking midfielder struggled to settle in at his new club, often being pushed out of his preferred position by incumbent attacking midfielder Sergio Suarez.

Now aged 33, Sumanya will look to rejuvenate his career once more with the Rabbits. He joins a side who have already secured some impressive deals during the off season, including Suphanburi’s Alvaro Silva, PTT Rayong’s Victor Cardozo.

Days before the Sumanya deal was confirmed, the club also announced the capture of another former Thai international, Siroch Chatthong, from PT Prachuap. Siroch was a key part of the War Elephants squad under the guidance of Kiatisuk Senamuang in 2016 and 2017, but had a significantly reduced role after struggling to make an impact at Muangthong United after a high-profile move to the Kirin.

BG also recently announced a return for former captain Peerapong Pichitchotirat from Chiangrai United. The defensive midfielder had previously played over 200 games for the club and regularly captained the side.
