World Cup Qualifying Vietnam

Five Things Vietnam Learned From Their 3-1 Win Over Indonesia

Vietnam remains tied for points with Thailand at the top of Group G after three games and are in the thick of the battle to advance to the next round. Football Tribe Vietnam’s Tran Tien discusses five things the side can learn from their most recent victory over Indonesia.

Vietnam Ease to Victory

Vietnam had an easy game and put in the better performance. Meanwhile, Indonesia played well in the first 20 minutes but tried in vain to secure at least 1 point.

Vietnam Still Missing Chances

The visitors missed a number of clear-cut chances during the match. Quang Hai shot over the bar and Hung Dung missed penalty, proving that Vietnam's team still has a problem when it comes to finishing. They could have won with bigger margin if it weren't for these misses. If the team can not advance to the third round due to goal difference, it will be hard to accept these wasting chances.

Unpredictable Park Hang-Seo

The most difficult thing for people covering the Vietnam team now is predicting the team and the way coach Park Hang Seo will operate the system of the team in the match. He made some "crazy" substitutions during the match with the appearance of Viet Phong as a striker and Van Thanh as a right winger, which were not predicted at the start of the match.

Issues Remain in Defense

And of course, the Vietnamese fans still have something to worry about the Vietnamese's defence after they conceded the late goal. It would be more serious for the team if they conceded ar similar goal in the upcoming matches against Thailand and UAE.

Three Horse Race in Group G?

After 4 matchdays in Group G, we can say that the race to advance to third round of the qualifiers will be between 3 teams: Thailand, Vietnam and the UAE. Malaysia will have a slim chance if they win both home matches against Thailand and Indonesia in November.
